Do you like adventure activities? Well, read on because today you will discover an activity to do in the town of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, which will undoubtedly put you in contact with nature and bring out all the adrenaline you have inside. Let’s go!
On the outskirts of the municipality of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, in the Cala del Molí residential area, there is a fantastic via ferrata called “Via Ferrata de la Cala del Molí”.
What’s that you say? You don’t know what a via ferrata is?
Don’t worry, the Campsites of Girona will fill you in straight away. A Via Ferrata is a route that goes one step further than hiking, but it is not as adventurous as climbing. It is arguably the middle ground between the two sports.
Specifically, it is a route marked out with clamps, chains and cables to cover very vertical paths or cliffs in complete safety, as the adventurers are fastened at all times with chains that trace the entire route.
Read on to find out what it’s all about!
This is our opinion, but it is probably common amongst many of whom have done the Cala del Molí Via Ferrata.
The steep-walled cliffs, the orange granite rocks, a great amalgam of blues and the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks, all make for an intrepid panorama, and an adventurous one. If you feel like walking along these cliffs, while taking in the landscape, this is the Via Ferrata for you.
The Via Ferrata of Cala del Molí, is considered to be of medium difficulty, thus accessible to all levels of hikers who have a minimum level of physical fitness and good arm and hand strength. On the other hand, it is not advisable for people with vertigo or other health impairments, unless under professional supervision.
This freely accessible Via Ferrata of the Costa Brava , consists of various features including 5 bridges: 3 Tibetan, 1 Nepalese and 1 log; and is divided into two sections with different difficulties.
The first section, of medium-easy difficulty, is categorised as K2 on the Hüstler staircase (which categorises this type of route from 1 to 5, with 1 being the easiest level and 5 the most demanding) and the second section, of medium difficulty, with a K3. At the end of the first section, halfway along the via, users who do not wish to continue along the second section will find an escape path on the left, which will lead them back to the starting point.
One of the unique features of the Via Ferrata de Sant Feliu de Guíxols, which has made it one of the main attractions, is its location overlooking the sea, which makes it unique and has given it the title of being one of the most beautiful Via Ferratas in Europe.
In essence, what makes this via ferrata on the Costa Brava so spectacular and special is undoubtedly the fact that participants progress along a route of some 500 metres horizontally above the sea and at an average altitude of 10 metres above the sea, skirting the Blanch cliff, Cala del Molí, the narrow entrance to Es Fijorn and the broad Cala Alga, with unique views of the sea.
