A nice way to enter Albanyà is through the ancient gateway of the 12th century walls, declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest. Albanyà retains the charm of an ancient town that grew around a monastery, in this case the monastery of Sant Pere d’Albanyà, a lovely example of Romanesque architecture. Set against the wonderful backdrop of the upper valley of the Muga, a Pyrenean river, with mountains and abundant vegetation, this is a place well worth visiting.
