Olot

Do you know of any other city that’s nestled between four volcanoes? Well, Olot is. The capital of Garrotxa certainly deserves to be called the capital of volcanoes. But there’s much more to Olot than lava, that’s for sure. This city has plenty to show you: greenways (the old Olot-Girona narrow-gauge railway), modernist trails, defence towers and the convent of El Carme. If you have to choose a date for your visit, come in September for the city’s main festival, the Festival of Tura. Enjoy the wonderful spectacle of dancing gegants (giant papier mâché figures whose carrier is completely hidden inside), cabeçuts (large papier mâché heads worn on the carrier’s head and shoulders) and knights in the main square, a memory for you to treasure.
