Are you planning a camping holiday and don’t want to leave your faithful adventure companion behind? Well, you are in the right place! Today we are going to tell you everything you need to know to enjoy an epic vacation with your furry pet.

Campsites are one of the best options to enjoy nature and it is always much better if the whole family can go. Forget about animal kennels and start traveling with your pet, you won’t regret it!

Recommendations to travel with your pet

Make sure the campsite you are going, accepts pets and check all its conditions. From the Girona Camping Association we have created the Pet Friendly seal where you will find the campsites in the area that do allow pets and that also offer services for them such as showers, houses or even menus for them.

Not all pets are used to traveling and it can be a stressful situation for them. Think about whether your pet will enjoy, feel comfortable and safe in such an environment, living with more people and animals. Take into account its character when choosing where you go.

Your pet should meet some basic requirements for this type of vacation: be educated and obedient, get along well with other animals, not be too barky, not disturb the rest of the campers…

Keep its veterinary record up to date with your vaccinations and deworming whenever you go to an animal campsite. Keep in mind that you are going to be in the middle of nature and the risks are higher than in the city.

Make sure your pet wears an identification tag with its name and your telephone number. In case it gets lost, this will make it easier to return home.

Carry a first aid kit for your pet in case there is an accident.

What do you need for your pet?

In the same way that you are preparing your suitcase, they need their things, too, so make sure it has everything it needs:

  • Passport and vaccination record up to date.
  • Walking accessories: dog collar, harness and leash.
  • Food: take their food and treats, as well as their food and water bowl.
  • Medicines. If your pet takes any medication or is undergoing treatment, don’t forget to take it with you.
  • Hygienic bags and sachet dispensers. When camping with animals, it is very important to pick up their droppings to keep the environment clean.
  • Accessories for resting: their bed and a blanket
  • Toys. Pack its favourite toys so it can play during the holidays.
  • Towel for the swimming pool or beach.

Activities to enjoy together

Hiking:

Explore the natural trails near the campsite with your pet. Be sure to respect the local regulations and keep your furry friend always under control.

Outdoor games:

Take a ball, a frisbee or any toy your pet likes with you and enjoy playing sessions in the middle of nature.

Swimming:

If the campsite is near a lake, river or beach, take the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing dip with your four-legged friend. Most dogs love water! But above all, make sure that dogs are allowed, as there are some beaches that dogs have prohibited access.

Kayak or paddle surf:

If your dog is a water fan, treat him to a kayaking or paddle surfing trip, he’ll have a blast!

Relax:

In the evenings, there is nothing better than relaxing with your pet under the starry sky. Your pet will enjoy the tranquillity and the holiday as much as you do.

If your pet is not used to socializing with other animals, keep it under control and avoid situations that could generate stress or conflicts with other dogs.
