Therefore, the Girona Campsites recommends a new option for when you have the time: exploring the Garrotxa volcanic zone\u2019s most impressive volcanoes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This article highlights three of the most stunning volcanoes nestled in the Garrotxa Nature Reserve, which features the Iberian Peninsula\u2019s most important volcanic landscape and is home to 40 volcanic cones and more than 20 lava flows.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before beginning this tour, we\u2019d like to show you this stunning video of the Garrotxa Nature Reserve, filmed by the Costa Brava Girona Tourism Board.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HKKAGU-VTDw\" width=\"740\" height=\"400\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2><b>Santa Margarita Volcano<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2713\" src=\"https:\/\/campingsingirona.com\/inspirat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/1-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"494\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The charming town of Santa Pau is home to some of the Garrotxa Nature Reserve\u2019s finest scenery, with beautiful landscape, the idyllic chapel located in the centre of the crater, and the adrenaline of walking on the summit of a volcano. The records reveal that the 700 m high Santa Margarita Volcano erupted over 11,000 years ago and has been dormant ever since. A sweeping green plain covers the crater, with a traditional Romanesque church &#8211; Santa Margarita del Clot &#8211; sitting impressively in the centre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To reach the Santa Margarita Volcano, visitors must embark on a pleasant 30-minute walk from the nearest car park. Either follow the route below or explore other paths.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/es.wikiloc.com\/wikiloc\/spatialArtifacts.do?event=view&amp;id=13235283&amp;measures=off&amp;title=off&amp;near=off&amp;images=off&amp;maptype=H\" width=\"500\" height=\"400\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2><b>Croscat Volcano<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-14869\" src=\"https:\/\/campingsingirona.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/CB-104-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/campingsingirona.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/CB-104-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/campingsingirona.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/CB-104-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Near the Santa Margarita Volcano lies Croscat, another of the most famous volcanoes in the Garrotxa volcanic zone. It&#8217;s one of the youngest volcanoes in the park. Estimates suggest the last eruption was around 11,000 years ago. One of this volcano\u2019s striking features is the horseshoe-shaped crater, sculpted by lava during Croscat\u2019s multiple eruptions. The 6 km of lava flow and the pits formed around the volcano are also impressive. From the top, visitors can see the remains of a defence tower, now converted into a communications tower.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another of this volcano\u2019s unique characteristics is the cut in a part of the mountain, from mining operations in the past that were halted following social protests. This cut affords an insight into a volcano\u2019s inner structure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s the path from Can Xel, which offers a pleasant stroll to the Croscat Volcano. The Garrotxa Tourism Board recommends a guided tour and asks that visitors fully respect the environment, which is part of a protected Nature Reserve.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/es.wikiloc.com\/wikiloc\/spatialArtifacts.do?event=view&amp;id=39312149&amp;measures=off&amp;title=off&amp;near=off&amp;images=off&amp;maptype=H\" width=\"500\" height=\"400\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2><b>Montsacopa Volcano<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-14875\" src=\"https:\/\/campingsingirona.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Olot-Santa-Pau.-Albert-Duch.-Arxiu-Imatges-PTCBG-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/campingsingirona.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Olot-Santa-Pau.-Albert-Duch.-Arxiu-Imatges-PTCBG-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/campingsingirona.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Olot-Santa-Pau.-Albert-Duch.-Arxiu-Imatges-PTCBG-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Montsacopa is another of the most famous volcanoes in the Garrotxa area due to its proximity to the city of Olot and the stunning views of the Garrotxa Nature Reserve.
