After the lighthouse there was a watchtower that was used to look out for pirate raids in the territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s <strong>the best-known vantage point in Cap de Creus<\/strong>, due to the panoramic views that can be admired and its proximity to some of the most delightful coves in the area.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to go there for lunch, you can stop off at <strong>Cap de Creus Lighthouse Restaurant<\/strong>, a small establishment next to the lighthouse where freshly caught fish and paellas are the main dishes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Paratge de Tudela<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em><em>\u201cThis part between Camell and \u00c0guila that you know and love as much as I do is and must continue forever as pure geology, without anything that can dilute it; I make this a matter of principle. Its demolition and the subsequent restoration of the landscape meant that one of the most emblematic places in the Empord\u00e0 can be enjoyed once again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can walk along a <strong>path that inspired great artists<\/strong> like Salvador Dal\u00ed. The sea salt and the north wind have left their marks on the landscape, giving animal-like shapes to many of the rock structures. Located in Serra de Vereda, it\u2019s regarded as a <strong>Romanesque treasure and one of the most important monasteries in Catalonia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its construction date isn\u2019t clear; according to some legends, the first humans arrived in this area in the 9th century and some <strong>Benedictine monks were the founders<\/strong> of this building, which was initially designed to guard over the remains of Saint Peter and other Saints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the origins are unclear and remains have been found dating back further than the 9th century, its age of splendour came between the 11th and 14th centuries, when it became the main spiritual centre run by Benedictine monks in the county of Emp\u00faries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A visit to the incredible Sant Pere de Rodes Monastery is a must, and, if you\u2019re interested, C\u00e0mpings de Girona can provide <a href=\"https:\/\/campingsingirona.com\/en\/points-interest\/sant-pere-de-rodes\/\">more information<\/a> so you can prepare for your visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><strong>The Sant Salvador de Verdera Castle<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Very close to the Sant Pere de Rodes Monastery stands the Sant Salvador de Verdera Castle, a building dating back to the 9th century whose ruins have been conserved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rather than visiting the castle, we suggest going on a short excursion between the Monastery and the Castle, walking along a pleasant path until you reach <strong>one of the most incredible viewpoints in the Empord\u00e0<\/strong>. It offers spectacular views of Cap de Creus, its towns and other landmarks such as the Empord\u00e0 Natural Park Wetlands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Ciutadella de Roses<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A The town of Roses is one of the largest municipalities in Cap de Creus and one of the most important ones in terms of its heritage, with the Trinity Castle, a megalithic ensemble, the anti-raid shelter, the Citadel of Roses and much more.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During your visit to Cap de Creus, we recommend stopping off at the Citadel of Roses, listed as a <strong>Cultural Asset of National Interest<\/strong> in 1993. This formation is located between J\u00f3ncols Bay and Montjoi Bay, where you\u2019ll find <strong>two magnificent coves<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This location in the Cap de Creus Natural Park is renowned for being an <strong>integral protection zone<\/strong>, thanks to the great terrestrial and marine biodiversity that\u2019s been preserved. This is why it\u2019s one of the <strong>favourite destinations for divers <\/strong>from all over the world, who gather in this area to catch glimpses of the underwater spectacle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><strong>Empord\u00e0 Natural Park Wetlands &#8211; The Lakes<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Empord\u00e0 Natural Park Wetlands stretches over the Alt Empord\u00e0 county, covering an area of about 4,722.7 hectares until it links up with the Cap de Creus Natural Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>lakes area, called \u201cEls Estanys\u201d<\/strong>, lies closest to Cap de Creus and it\u2019s a place of great scenic beauty where you\u2019ll be able to <strong>see different species of birds and, depending on the time of year, horses<\/strong> walking around the lakes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-top-five-coves-and-beaches-in-cap-de-creus\"><strong><strong>The top five coves and beaches in Cap de Creus<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Cap de Creus conceals some of the <strong>most spectacular coves and beaches on the Costa Brava<\/strong>. C\u00e0mpings de Girona will reveal the most outstanding ones, but, if you do some excursions around the area, you\u2019ll discover many more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Cala Jugadora<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>This nudist cove, close to Cap de Creus Lighthouse, is one of the most emblematic ones due to its steep landscape surrounded by vegetation and its distance from civilisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s characterised by the rocky seabed and white sand, a home for numerous marine species. A beach <strong>ideal for snorkelling fans<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>Cala Fredosa<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Just below the Cap de Creus Lighthouse lies Cala Fredosa, a wonderful beach that was previously used to deliver provisions to the residents in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another feature of Cala Fredosa is that it receives the first rays of sunlight each day of the whole Iberian Peninsula. So, if you want to be one of the privileged few and see <strong>one of the best sunrises in the Mediterranean<\/strong>, we recommend a morning swim in this cove.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"3\">\n<li><strong>Cala J\u00f3ncols<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Another beach we can\u2019t fail to mention is Cala J\u00f3ncols. Bordering Cadaqu\u00e9s and Roses, this unspoilt cove, only accessible along the coastal path from Cala Montjoi, is a place of great natural beauty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like the vast majority of the coves in Cap de Creus, it\u2019s a paradise for snorkelling and diving fans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"4\">\n<li><strong>Cala Montjoi<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Near the Cala J\u00f3ncols we can find Cala Montjoi, an <strong>unspoilt location and a little paradise for diving lovers<\/strong>, who can dive into clear waters full of marine species such as lobsters, moray eels, conger eels and fish of all colours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"5\">\n<li><strong>Platja del Cau del Llop<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>We complete our own top five coves and beaches in Cap de Creus with one that\u2019s a little different from the previous ones.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cau del Llop Beach is located in Llan\u00e7\u00e0 and <strong>easier to reach <\/strong>than the other ones. You\u2019ll be able to observe many <strong>different and changing landscapes<\/strong> as you progress until you reach the Cap de Creus Lighthouse, one of the wildest places, with steep rocks and large cliffs. You can continue to Port Lligat and end this stretch with an enjoyable swim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the way you\u2019ll see stunning coves and beaches that will invite you to stop and bathe in their clear turquoise waters.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/campingsingirona.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/cb-094_optimized.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-30033\" width=\"566\" height=\"378\" srcset=\"https:\/\/campingsingirona.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/cb-094_optimized.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/campingsingirona.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/cb-094_optimized-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 566px) 100vw, 566px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"towns-in-cap-de-creus\"><strong><strong>Towns in Cap de Creus<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Cap de Creus Natural Park encompasses several towns worth making a stop in; we\u2019ll tell you more about some of them so you can identify the features that make them unique and the sights you shouldn\u2019t miss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Llan\u00e7\u00e0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A <strong>fishing village in Cap de Creus<\/strong> with white houses that lies close to the French border. It\u2019s renowned for its coves, the steep coastline and the fact that it\u2019s one of the most important towns in the area, which means it has all kinds of services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During your visit to Llan\u00e7\u00e0 you must go on a walk through the old town, around the fishing port and along the seafront.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Port de la Selva<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We continue with Port de la Selva, another <strong>fishing village with white houses<\/strong> in Cap de Creus. The setting for this town is similar to that of Llan\u00e7\u00e0 and it also provides all kinds of services for tourists and residents.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the landmarks in the town are the centre, the traditional fishing port, Punta S\u2019Arnella Lighthouse, the Santa Maria de les Neus Church and the promenade. This village is also very close to the Sant Pere de Rodes Monastery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>La Selva de Mar<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This village, located in the Cap de Creus Natural Park and very close to Port de la Selva, has its <strong>origins in mediaeval times<\/strong> and it still preserves this character, as reflected in the cobbled streets and the Church of Sant Esteve dating back to the 10th century. You\u2019ll also see other elements reminiscent of times gone by, such as the defensive towers spread around the village.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We definitely recommend a visit to this village, which, although it isn\u2019t as well-known as the others in the area, is very useful for understanding the character and landscape of this peculiar territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Cadaqu\u00e9s<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In Cadaqu\u00e9s you\u2019ll find <strong>a charming town<\/strong>, among the ones visited most often on the Costa Brava. The white houses, the beaches, the bohemian aura created by artists from all around and, above all, the greatest exponent of surrealism, Salvador Dal\u00ed, have popularised the name of this town around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019re sure to love the visit to Cadaqu\u00e9s and, very close to it, you\u2019ll find Portlligat, a small residential area with the<strong> Salvador Dal\u00ed House-Museum<\/strong>. There\u2019s also access to Cap de Creus Lighthouse and Tudela nearby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Roses<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Roses is one of the <strong>largest towns<\/strong> close to Cap de Creus, offering all visitors a cultural and natural heritage and a never-ending range of activities in the area to be enjoyed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the most important landmarks are the Citadel, the Trinity Castle, the megalithic settlement, the Empord\u00e0 Natural Park Wetlands, the Visigothic Castrum, the old town and the air-raid shelter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Palau-saverdera<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite not being one of the most tourist-geared municipalities in the Cap de Creus area, the village of Palau-saverdera conceals <strong>little treasures such as the Clock Tower<\/strong>, a building that tells the time for the whole village, and the Romanesque Church of Sant Joan dating back to the 11th century.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the summer, it\u2019s an excellent option if you want to visit a village away from the coast and enjoy the peace and quiet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Vilaju\u00efga&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Another important village in Cap de Creus is Vilaju\u00efga, a small <strong>municipality with features characteristic of mediaeval times <\/strong>which is renowned for the growing of vines used by many wines with the Empord\u00e0 designation of origin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another landmark in this Empord\u00e0 village is the <strong>set of megalithic dolmens<\/strong> spread around the municipality. In addition, on a nearby peak you\u2019ll find the 12th-century Querman\u00e7\u00f3 Castle, which was occupied by the troops of King John II.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Pau<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ll complete the set of towns in Cap de Creus by mentioning Pau, a village located in the Serra de Rodes and close to the Muga river. The surrounding area also features <strong>megalithic settlements<\/strong> that demonstrate the existence of ancient civilisations in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We should also highlight the Sant Mart\u00ed Church, dating back to the 11th and 13th centuries. It has a peculiar fa\u00e7ade built with five semicircular archivolts resting on pillars adorned with capitals and plant and zoomorphic decorations. Finally you\u2019ll see a castle, known as Cal Marqu\u00e8s that\u2019s privately owned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that you have seen the highlights of Cap de Creus and its towns and coves, how about learning more about the best restaurants where you can enjoy a good meal?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"restaurants-in-cap-de-creus\"><strong><strong>Restaurants in Cap de Creus<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Cap de Creus Natural Park <strong>doesn\u2019t have many restaurants<\/strong>, as it isn\u2019t a well-developed area so as to preserve the natural environment and landscape of this unique territory. Therefore, if you\u2019re on a trip in the area we suggest two options: (1) bring a picnic or a sandwich from home or (2) stop at the <strong>Cap de Creus Lighthouse Restaurant<\/strong>, where you can enjoy excellent dishes cooked with fresh fish and rice dishes that will make your mouth water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to visit the towns in Cap de Creus, another option is to eat at one of the restaurants mentioned above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-to-get-to-cap-de-creus\"><strong><strong>How to get to Cap de Creus<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can reach the Cap de Creus area <strong>by car via the AP7<\/strong> motorway (direction Girona &gt; Roses) and then select the town you want to go to. Access to certain areas of the Natural Park is restricted so you should take care when you park to avoid fines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also reach the Cap de Creus Natural Park <strong>by public transport<\/strong>, in one of the shuttle buses that leaves Cadaqu\u00e9s every 20 minutes and goes as far as Cap de Creus Lighthouse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"where-to-park-in-the-cap-de-creus-natural-park\"><strong><strong>Where to park in the Cap de Creus Natural Park<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>From 1 June to 30 September 2021 access by car is restricted to 9:30 am to 8:00 pm. However, a free car park has been set up in Corral d\u2019en Morrell, near the town of Cadaqu\u00e9s.
